Top 6 best ‘almost free’ website hosting platforms

Finding a host to host your website is not an easy task. There are so many hosts to choose from all with different offers. It is easy to find a cheap host, but do they have all the basic features you will need? Some might not have SLL Encryption or some might not offer you a free domain.

I have been looking for a cheap and reliable host for a long time now and have found my winner.

I will create a list of the 6 best web hosts for 2020. This is obviously just my opinion, but I hope my opinion can guide you to your new web host.

What to Look for in a Cheap Host

A website host shouldn’t cost you an arm and a leg. The website hosting scene is so competitive in the world of today, that you will easily find a decent website host, for a decent price.

Seeing that you are looking for a cheap host also means that your needs for hosting resources aren’t that big and this might actually be your first website.

Even though some web hosts offers sound too good to be true, most of the time they are, because the way they get new customers is by offering them welcome bonuses or giving them a free domain. The biggest catch is that your hosting plan at that given cheap price is mostly only valid for a year and the offer is normally tripled or even more when renewing your Contract.

Here is a list of the bare minimum of features a website host should have regardless of your needs:

  • They should allow you to install WordPress with a one-click installation
  • The cheap plan should include a free domain name
  • Your host should give you access to email accounts for your domain
  • Your host should offer FTP for you to transfer files
  • You should have basic security tools too keep your site secure
  • You should be equipped with enough bandwidth and storage to keep your site going during your growth

Is cheap hosting something for you?

Cheap website hosting is for you, if you are starting a blog or have a personal website for yourself. If you are thinking of building a small business, this might also be the option for you.

With such cheap hosting, which probably only costs you a couple of dollars a month, the chances of you getting something called shared hosting is quite realistic.

Shared hosting is where you split the costs of the servers between a lot of users. By doing this, you obviously won’t receive the full resources as you would if you were hosting on your own server. As I said, this shouldn’t be a problem for a small website.

When you’re just starting a new blog, have very basic website needs, or have a low traffic site, then cheap and basic web hosting plans can be a great option. These plans usually only cost a couple of bucks per month and will have everything required to support your site.

Cheap web hosting can come in a variety of different styles. But, the most common will probably be shared hosting. With shared hosting, you’re splitting the cost of the physical server with hundreds of other users, which is how costs are so low. The total number of accounts on the server will depend on the hosting provider you’re using.

Now lets get too it.

The 6 best Website Hosts

1)IONOS by 1&1

$0,08 Cent per Month (Germany) (1 Year)

$3 per Month (International)

Ionos is a fantastic Service for an even more unbeatable price. I have hosted my website in Germany and for a whole year of hosting I have been charged 1 Euro. How crazy is that? They have 24/7 Service, great bandwidth and storage and a simple user interface. If you are outside of Germany, normal price for a moth is $3.

2)Namecheap

$1,32 per Month (1 Year)

$2,60 per Month when you renew

Namecheap is a great host for what they have to offer. They claim to offer 100% uptime and will pay compensation for being offline. They have a very user-friendly set up and allow you to get your site online within minutes.

3)Bluehost

$2,49 per Month (1 Year)

$7,25 per Month when you renew

Bluehost is fantastic. They have so much to offer and are also one of WordPress’ recommended hosts. They also claim to have unmetered bandwidth, which is a bit fishy.

4)Hostinger

$0,99 per Month (1 Year)

$2,15 per Month when you renew

I have had a personal website hosted with Hostinger and have nothing bad to say about them. The big negative about their deal is that you don’t get a free domain included. This might be a deal breaker for people who wont to get both things sorted in one buy.

5)iPage

$2,99 per Month (1, 2 or 3 year plans)

$8,35 per Month when you renew

I hosted this website with iPage before I started with Ionos. There is nothing bad to say about them besides the fact that their user-friendliness is not the best. Their 24/7 Service is phenomenal. I did sometimes have outages, but they were quickly resolved by iPage.

6)Hostgator

$2,75 per Month (3 Years)

$6,95 per Month when you renew

Hostgater offers everything you need to get started with a website. You get a free domain, free emails accounts, SSL encryption and much more. They claim to offer unmetered bandwidth, which might not always be the case.

Final thoughts

A cheap host isn’t automatically a bad or low quality host. The above mentioned hosts will definitely help you host your own website.

This is just my opinion on the best host and I don’t believe that there really is the best host. I believe that there are a lot of good hosts that offer a lot for what they cost but at the end of the day, you need to know what your needs are before starting your own website.

I am also more than happy to help out with hosting and can even help design and deploy your own website. For help or questions just email me.

I hope I could help you with this difficult choice and would appreciate if you let me know what you think.

Now, with a good host supporting you it’s time to host your website.
